Qualcomm has announced new chips and software efforts aimed at bringing more artificial intelligence processing directly to consumer devices.
CNBC reported that the company released an AI-focused Android chip as a memory shortage weighs on the smartphone market. Separately, Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon Sound Elite Gen 2 for compact audio wearables. Engadget described it as a chip designed to enable AI features on small audio devices, while 9to5Google reported that it is intended for AI “hearables,” including models equipped with cameras. Gizmodo said the small chip also supports lossless audio over Wi-Fi.
TechCrunch also reported that PrismML is bringing its small language models to smart glasses powered by Qualcomm hardware. PrismML’s broader goal is to develop open-weight AI models that run on devices and make use of their existing computing capacity.
