publishers 3articles 3first reported 23 Sep, 14:54 UTCdeveloping since 24 Sep · 4 editions

A Sony patent describes technology that could allow PlayStation controllers to process contactless payments by tapping a credit card or phone on the controller, according to reports from IGN, Tom’s Hardware and Insider Gaming.

Tom’s Hardware reported that the proposed system uses NFC and Bluetooth and could also support gift cards for purchases. The patent does not establish that Sony plans to introduce the feature in a commercial PlayStation controller.
