Meta introduced its first camera-free AI glasses as part of a broader smart-glasses lineup unveiled at its Meta Connect event. The company says the camera-free model will be lighter and offer up to 12 hours of battery life.
The announcements also included additional AI-glasses styles and a slimmed-down VR headset, according to Wired. Meta’s own announcement identified the camera-free product as Ray-Ban Meta Audio.
Meta also said it is working to bring its recently launched Muse agent to its smart glasses, including the new models announced at Connect. The Verge reported that users will be able to activate Muse by saying its name and ask it to perform tasks such as guiding a workout or logging activities.
New York Times Cooking is also coming to Meta’s AI and display glasses. Engadget reported that its hands-free mode will narrate recipe steps to users.
The expansion comes amid continuing privacy concerns about smart eyewear capable of recording nearby people. NBC News reported that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the company would lead on smart-glasses privacy despite criticism. Separately, developer Paweł Szydłowski created an app called ZuckOff that scans nearby Bluetooth signals and flags devices it believes are smart glasses, though Fast Company reported that the app has limitations.
