A British survivor and relatives of people who died addressed the sentencing hearing of Canadian poison seller Kenneth Law.

Elisabeth Belien told the hearing that Law exploited her despair when she obtained and took poison at age 23, according to the BBC. She survived.

In other testimony reported by the BBC, a victim’s mother said the death had “broken us as a family.” CBC reported that another mother told the hearing her 11-year-old daughter still sends text messages to her father after his suicide.
