New York sued prediction-market platform Polymarket on Thursday, alleging that the company is operating an unlicensed gambling business in violation of state law.

Attorney General Letitia James is asking a court to shut down the operation, according to Ars Technica. CNBC reported that James claims Polymarket has violated New York’s gambling laws.

The lawsuit follows similar actions by the state involving other prediction-market and cryptocurrency companies. The Hill reported that New York has brought comparable allegations against Kalshi, Coinbase and Gemini in recent months, while CNBC noted that the Polymarket case was filed two months after the state sued Kalshi.
