An Iowa judge has dismissed President Donald Trump’s lawsuit against The Des Moines Register and former pollster J. Ann Selzer over a presidential poll published shortly before the 2024 general election.
The poll showed then-Vice President Kamala Harris leading Trump in Iowa. Trump challenged the newspaper and Selzer over its publication, but Iowa District Court Judge Scott J. Beattie rejected his claims in a ruling issued Wednesday.
Beattie said allowing the lawsuit and its “faulty” claims to proceed could “discourage others from reporting on and debating public affairs,” according to CBS News. The Washington Post reported that the court cited First Amendment protections in ruling against Trump.
