At least 11 people were killed when three gunmen opened fire at a house party near Durban, South Africa, police and local authorities said Wednesday.
Police said 14 people — 13 men and one woman believed to be pregnant — were inside a house in KwaMakhutha township when the attackers arrived late Tuesday. Ten victims died at the scene, while four were taken to a hospital, where one later died. The woman was among those killed.
According to police, some of the victims had been under surveillance in connection with suspected illegal activity, though officials withheld details to protect the investigation. The motive has not been established, but police said they could not rule out a feud between rival groups.
A reporter for South African broadcaster eNCA said the attackers set fire to a vehicle belonging to one of the victims before fleeing. Footage from the scene showed a burned-out car.
Police launched a manhunt for the three suspects, who were reported to have been armed with pistols and rifles.
