Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will meet in an all-British heavyweight fight at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium on Dec. 11, ending years of unsuccessful efforts to arrange the bout.
Saudi boxing powerbroker Turki Alalshikh announced the date and venue Thursday after months of negotiations. The fight had previously been linked with venues in New York and London, while Fury had called for another bout with Oleksandr Usyk. The Cardiff stadium can hold about 80,000 spectators.
“For 15 years no one has been able to make this fight,” Alalshikh wrote on social media. “I can now confirm that Fury Vs Joshua will be coming to the UK, as I promised British boxing fans.”
The fight will be streamed on Netflix. BoxingScene reported that the agreement does not contain a rematch clause and that a “world” title will be at stake.
Fury, 37, last fought in July, defeating 46-year-old Mariusz Wach in Thailand. Joshua, 36, returned two months ago against Kristian Prenga, recovering from two first-round knockdowns to win.
