Tesla has begun deliveries of its long-delayed Semi electric truck after starting volume production in April at a new factory in Sparks, Nevada. The facility, located next to the company’s Gigafactory Nevada, has a stated capacity of 50,000 trucks a year, or about 1,000 a week.

At a Thursday event, Tesla identified customers including PepsiCo, US Foods, DHL, WattEV, ABF, Einride, IMC and OK Produce. ZET SCALE has also ordered 2,500 battery-electric Class 8 trucks, most of them from Tesla, according to reports from Yahoo Finance and CleanTechnica.

Tesla first unveiled the Semi concept in 2017 and initially planned production for 2019. It delivered a handful of trucks to PepsiCo in 2022 before unveiling the final production design in February 2026 and starting volume production in April.

The company said the standard-range model can travel an estimated 325 miles at the full 82,000-pound gross combination weight, while the long-range version is rated for 500 miles. Tesla did not disclose current order totals or updated pricing at the event. Its 2017 targets were $150,000 for the 300-mile model and $180,000 for the 500-mile version, while a report earlier this year said customers had been quoted $290,000 for the long-range truck.

Tesla Semi program head Dan Priestley said the company plans to open 30 public megawatt-charging sites by the end of the year.
