Australian and US authorities are investigating how components for F-35 fighter jets being shipped from Australia to the United States were diverted to Hong Kong.
Australia’s acting prime minister, Richard Marles, said the Department of Defence would review “very much everything that has occurred at the Australian end,” according to The Guardian. Marles said the components were not sensitive, amid concerns that technology connected to the advanced stealth fighter program could have been exposed.
The Pentagon is also investigating how the parts ended up in Hong Kong, ABC News reported. Politico reported that US lawmakers were examining the diversion as well. Al Jazeera described the shipment as having been mistakenly sent to Hong Kong and said both Australia and the United States were investigating.
