Rep. Steve Cohen, a Tennessee Democrat and senior member of the House Judiciary Committee, introduced 26 articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, according to a statement from his congressional office.
Cohen’s resolution alleges abuses of power, violations of Trump’s oath of office, corrupt use of presidential pardon authority, violations of the Constitution’s emoluments clauses and other misconduct. In a statement, Cohen said he introduced the measure because he believed Trump’s conduct threatened democracy and Congress’s Republican majority had failed to hold the president accountable.
Cohen previously introduced five articles of impeachment against Trump in November 2017 while serving as the ranking member of the House Judiciary subcommittee responsible for constitutional issues. He said he hoped the new resolution would help pave the way to accountability.
