NASA has selected the PRIMA far-infrared space telescope as the first mission in its new astrophysics probe mission class, according to announcements from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and other participating institutions. Spaceflight Now reported that the telescope is scheduled to launch in 2033.
Caltech, JPL and the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center will have key roles in the mission, Caltech said. UMass Amherst astronomer Alexandra Pope will serve as the mission’s science team lead, according to the university.
