Russia is increasingly deploying jet-powered attack drones against Ukraine, adding faster weapons to a long-range campaign that is putting greater pressure on Ukrainian air defenses, according to Reuters.
Business Insider reported that the once-rare turbojet drones, which can fly about twice as fast as earlier models, are now being used by the thousands. Ukrainian reports have highlighted the Geran-5 and faster variants of the Shahed family, warning that their speed makes interception more difficult. UNITED24 Media published footage it said showed a Geran-5 exploding after a Ukrainian interception.
The Guardian reported that Ukrainian units are launching domestically produced FP-2 drones against Russian military and logistics targets, including in occupied Luhansk. The aircraft have a six-metre wingspan, carry more than 100 kilograms of explosives and can strike targets more than 200 miles away.
Ukraine said its air defenses neutralized 134 Russian drones in one recent attack, according to Ukrinform. The balance of power remains uncertain.
