Meta is expanding its Muse personal-assistant strategy into consumer hardware, unveiling a keychain-sized device called the Muse Charm at its annual Connect conference. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the device is intended to provide quick access to Muse, which can respond to emails, arrange travel and shop on a user’s behalf.
The Charm resembles a Tamagotchi-style handheld and displays Muse as a customizable, fuzzy animated character. Meta has not announced a price. Zuckerberg said the company was still finalizing materials and component placement, with plans to ship the device for the holiday season. Meta also said more than 100 styles of AI glasses would be available by the end of 2026.
Muse has risen to the top of Apple’s App Store since launching this month. Business Insider reported that its development involved months of internal testing, tens of thousands of Meta employees and a team led by former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman. Meta trained the agent to carry out tasks including booking meetings and canceling flights, according to the publication.
The assistant has already encountered resistance from Amazon, which is blocking Muse from making purchases on its platform. Amazon said the agent did not properly identify itself and presented security and privacy risks. Meta has said Muse cannot directly access users’ passwords or payment methods, which are stored separately in a secure cloud system.
Meta shares rose 4.5% on Thursday, CNBC reported, as investors responded to the company’s effort to connect Muse with its hardware products.
