Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he asked U.S. President Donald Trump to urge Chinese President Xi Jinping to use his influence over Russian President Vladimir Putin to help end Russia’s invasion. Zelensky said Xi could influence Putin more than many other leaders and that he was awaiting feedback from Trump.

Zelensky also called on Trump and European leaders to impose stronger sanctions following fresh Russian attacks. He asked Trump to implement legislation associated with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham targeting Russian banks, energy revenue, oligarchs, sanctions-evasion networks and foreign entities supporting Moscow’s war. He urged European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to introduce additional measures and keep Russian oligarchs on sanctions lists.

According to Zelensky, overnight strikes killed two people in Zaporizhzhia and injured 14 across affected areas. He said residential buildings and civilian facilities were hit in Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, the Odesa, Sumy and Kharkiv regions, while energy infrastructure was damaged elsewhere.

Separately, Zelensky accused Russia of widening its attacks to Ukrainian data centres and internet providers. A drone strike on a Kyiv business centre damaged a data centre, while about 100,000 households in Kyiv and the surrounding region experienced internet outages after other strikes. Russia said the targeted site was being used by Ukrainian military intelligence. The operator, Datagroup, said its services continued from backup sites.
