Israeli forces killed Hamas Finance Department chief Muhammad Abu Alwan in a Wednesday airstrike in Khan Younis, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said. The Israeli military and Shin Bet said Abu Alwan oversaw Hamas funding, while Army Radio reported that he managed external funds before the Oct. 7, 2023, attack and internal financing afterward, including money allegedly obtained under the guise of humanitarian aid. Israel National News and Ynetnews reported he moved more than 1 billion shekels during the war.
The Israel Defense Forces also said separate strikes in Gaza City killed two Hamas operatives who took part in the Oct. 7 attack and later held Israeli hostages. Hassan Mahmoud Siam, described by the IDF as a Hamas commander, was killed Wednesday. The military said Siam had held Amit Soussana, Keith and Aviva Siegel, and Dafna Elyakim during the war.
Adham Sabhi Salim Ziara was killed Tuesday in another Gaza City strike, according to the IDF. The military said Siam and Ziara had recently worked to rebuild Hamas’s capabilities, planned shooting attacks against Israeli troops and planted explosives near the Yellow Line in Gaza.
Reuters reported that four people were killed in strikes in Gaza.
