The White House launched “Trump TV,” a 24-hour YouTube livestream featuring President Donald Trump’s speeches and administration events.
Fast Company reported that the channel, which mixes new and recycled footage, drew limited initial viewership. Fast Company described it as a supposed replacement for news outlets CNN, MS NOW and Politico, which Trump banned from the White House.
Other members of the White House press pool, including NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox News, subsequently suspended coverage of the president in protest, The New Republic reported. The three barred organizations also filed a lawsuit alleging that the restrictions violated the First Amendment.
On Thursday, Trump claimed that CNN and MS NOW had declined to cover the White House arrival of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The New Republic reported that the outlets remained subject to the administration’s ban. MS NOW reporter Laura Barrón-López said she submitted credentials for a state dinner but was denied entry by White House press staff.
U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly temporarily restored the organizations’ access for two weeks on Thursday, according to The New Republic, which reported that the administration immediately defied the order. Barrón-López said she later received credentials for a Trump-Xi visit to the National Archives, an event outside the White House grounds.
