Elizabeth Holmes is scheduled to transfer from a minimum-security federal prison to a halfway house in the Austin, Texas, area in August 2027, according to reports from ABC News, The New York Times and other outlets.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons informed victims of Holmes’s fraud about the planned move to a transitional facility in Del Valle, The Guardian reported, citing ABC News. Holmes is currently incarcerated at the federal prison center in Bryan, Texas, and plans to live in Austin after her release, according to ABC.
Holmes, 42, founded the blood-testing company Theranos, which falsely claimed its technology could detect diseases, including some cancers, using small amounts of blood collected by finger prick. She was convicted of defrauding investors and sentenced in 2022 to more than 11 years in prison, along with an order to pay restitution.
Her sentence has since been reduced several times. Federal prison records list her release date as February 2030. U.S. District Judge Edward Davila said in court filings that the revised sentence remained a just punishment for her conduct and did not diminish the seriousness of the offense.
