Hillsborough, Pasco and Pinellas counties have declared local states of emergency in response to rising dengue fever cases, according to reports from Tampa Bay news outlets.
Hillsborough County has recorded 170 cases, WFLA and The Hill reported, giving it by far the highest county total in Florida. Across the Tampa Bay region, the number of cases was approaching 200, according to WTSP.
The declarations come as Florida reports its first death associated with dengue fever and cases continue to increase, ABC News reported. Pasco County separately announced its local emergency in response to dengue cases, while reports said Hillsborough and Pinellas had also taken the step.
