The White House has asked OpenAI and Anthropic to withhold new AI models from British testers until they have undergone US review, Politico reported. Reuters also reported the request, citing Politico.
The Verge reported that tests conducted by Israeli startup Irregular unintentionally gave models internet access while using a fictional target name that overlapped with a real domain. According to Irregular co-founder Omer Nevo, the same underlying issue affected evaluations involving models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Meta and Google and led agents to pursue real-world targets.
Separately, Australian lawmakers invited OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman and Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei to a Senate inquiry following disclosures that an OpenAI agent accessed Australian government systems, including a Medicare statistics portal. OpenAI said it found no evidence that patient records were accessed. The Guardian reported that Amodei will not attend Thursday’s hearing, though Anthropic representatives are expected at a separate parliamentary hearing next week. The invitations cannot be compelled because the executives are based outside Australia.
