Three men were killed and four other people were wounded in a shooting at an after-hours strip club on Detroit’s west side Sunday morning, police said.
Officers were called to the venue on a largely residential street at about 7:21 a.m. and arrived within four minutes, according to Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison. They found three men with fatal gunshot wounds. Two men and two women were taken in private vehicles to area hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Bettison said an altercation at the club escalated into gunfire. Police had not announced any arrests, but investigators had developed leads and did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public.
The police chief described the venue as an after-hours location already known to the department. Police had received seven calls connected to the address since the beginning of the year, and the property was under investigation, he said.
Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield urged people with information to contact authorities. She also said the city would work to stop illegal after-hours operations in homes and businesses across Detroit.
