Nvidia’s board has authorized an additional $150 billion in share repurchases, bringing the chipmaker’s remaining buyback authorization to $235 billion.
The company said Monday that the increase is the largest share-repurchase authorization in history and that it expects to complete the program through fiscal 2028. MarketWatch reported that purchases are intended to continue through January 2028.
Nvidia had already accelerated its buybacks before the announcement. Its board authorized an additional $80 billion in May, and the company repurchased a combined $39 billion of stock during the first two quarters of fiscal 2027, according to FactSet data cited by CNBC. That nearly matched its repurchases for the entirety of fiscal 2026, after about $34 billion in fiscal 2025.
Nvidia shares rose nearly 3% on Monday, lifting their year-to-date gain to roughly 24%. CNBC commentator Jim Cramer called the expanded authorization “a very significant buyback” and said frequent purchases could “change the trajectory” of the stock.
Share repurchases reduce the number of outstanding shares and can increase earnings per share and the proportional ownership of remaining investors, all else being equal.
