CBS News’ “Sunday Morning,” hosted by Jane Pauley, highlighted independent filmmaking, fall arts exhibitions and British singer-songwriter Raye in its Sept. 27 broadcast.
The cover story examined the box-office success of “Obsession” and “Backrooms,” two low-budget horror films directed by YouTube creators that each grossed hundreds of millions of dollars. Correspondent Luke Burbank spoke with Puck co-founder Matt Belloni, filmmaker and Brave Wilderness co-founder Mark Vins, and YouTube’s Kim Larson about how online creators use audience data and viewing habits to develop filmmaking skills.
Pauley surveyed new museum exhibitions, including a show of three-dimensional works by Keith Haring at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas. Other featured exhibitions included shows devoted to Lee Miller, Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein and the Bayeux Tapestry.
Correspondent Seth Doane interviewed Raye about becoming an independent artist after leaving her record label, as well as the role her family played in her album “This Music May Contain Hope.” The program also previewed anticipated film releases and revisited historical events associated with Sept. 27.
