U.S. President Donald Trump denied a report that his administration had offered Iran sanctions relief and access to frozen funds in exchange for steps on Tehran’s nuclear program.
In a Truth Social post, Trump rejected Axios’ account that he was willing to ease economic pressure if Iran took “concrete steps” on its nuclear activities. “This is untrue. I offered them NOTHING!” he wrote, calling the report a “HOAX.” Reuters and several other outlets reported the denial.
The statement came as Qatar continued mediation between Washington and Tehran. CNBC reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi briefed Iran’s cabinet on a U.S. proposal after meetings with Qatari mediators in Doha earlier in the week. Reuters reported that Tehran said it was ready for talks.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said Qatar was working to establish common ground for an agreement that would avoid further consequences from the conflict.
