The family and partner of Renee Good, who was fatally shot by a federal immigration agent in Minneapolis in January, have filed two civil lawsuits against the U.S. government, the agent and senior Trump administration officials.
Good, 37, was killed in her car on Jan. 7 while she and her wife were participating in protests against the deployment of federal immigration agents to Minnesota under Operation Metro Surge. She was one of two U.S. citizens fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis that month.
The plaintiffs are Good’s partner, Becca Good, and her brother, Brent Ganger, acting as trustee for her next of kin, including her three children. One lawsuit names the United States as the sole defendant and seeks damages under Minnesota law for wrongful death, assault, battery, false imprisonment, negligence and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
The second alleges a civil rights conspiracy and names ICE officer Jonathon Ross, who shot Good, along with officials including White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, former Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, former Border Patrol commander Gregory Bovino and Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski. The plaintiffs allege officials encouraged confrontations with protesters and authorized unconstitutional force as part of a discriminatory campaign. They are seeking financial damages and a jury trial.
Federal officials previously said Ross acted in self-defense, while President Donald Trump defended the shooting and accused protesters of threatening and targeting law enforcement officers. No agent involved in Good’s death has been charged.
