Meta Platforms has hired MongoDB CEO CJ Desai to lead a new business-focused division as the company expands its enterprise artificial intelligence offerings.
Desai will serve as Meta’s chief enterprise platform officer, report directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg and oversee the new Meta Enterprise Platform, according to CNBC. The unit will initially focus on tools including Meta’s Muse agent, a business agent and a coding product.
Zuckerberg said Meta plans to draw on its advanced models, AI agents, large-scale infrastructure and experience working with businesses. The initiative comes as Meta seeks returns from its substantial spending on AI infrastructure and products and moves further into markets served by companies including Microsoft, Salesforce and ServiceNow.
MongoDB appointed Dev Ittycheria interim president and CEO following Desai’s departure. Ittycheria led the database software company for 11 years before Desai succeeded him in November 2025. Desai previously served as Cloudflare’s president of product and engineering and as chief operating officer at ServiceNow.
MongoDB shares fell more than 18% after the announcement, while Meta shares declined about 5%, CNBC reported. MarketWatch similarly reported that MongoDB’s stock was down nearly 20%.
