Rapper Rick Ross was arrested in Miami Beach on Thursday and charged with felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery, according to local police and Miami-Dade court records.
Ross, whose legal name is William Leonard Roberts, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m. Bond was listed at $6,000. Court records show that attorney Bradley Horenstein is representing him and that an arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 22.
Authorities have not publicly identified the alleged victim or detailed the circumstances of the alleged incident. CBS News reported that a woman accused Ross of strangling and hitting her at a Miami Beach home, while NBC News described the alleged victim as his girlfriend.
The arrest followed public allegations by Ross’s former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, who accused him of physically abusing her. In social media posts reported by People and The Guardian, Kendrick shared an image of a swollen lip that she said Ross caused. It was not immediately established whether her allegations are connected to the charges.
The Guardian said it sought comment from Ross’s representative.
