Russian attacks on Kyiv have killed five people, including a 14-year-old boy, and injured 43, the Kyiv Independent reported, as missile and drone strikes continued into daylight across the Ukrainian capital. The Times of Israel identified the teenager as Israeli.
On Thursday morning, a Russian drone struck a school in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi district while children were in a shelter, according to Mayor Vitalii Klitschko and Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. The strike damaged the third floor of the four-story building and started a fire, which rescuers extinguished. No injuries were immediately reported. Other attacks hit warehouses and a non-residential complex, while an earlier strike injured a man and caused fires in several districts.
Two drones also struck near the supporting structure of Kyiv’s Pivdennyi Bridge, Militarnyi reported. Road and metro traffic across the bridge was suspended while engineers inspected it for damage. Passengers said one strike occurred as a metro train was crossing; the train reached Vydubychi station and was evacuated, with no passenger injuries reported.
Earlier in the week, a drone hit Ukraine’s National Academy of Sciences in central Kyiv. Mayor Klitschko said one person was killed and three were injured. Footage showed firefighters helping people escape through upper-floor windows as smoke poured from the historic building.
The attacks came during a week of near-continuous strikes involving ballistic missiles and newer jet-powered Shahed-type drones. A Sept. 30 air-raid alert in Kyiv lasted 12 hours and 44 minutes.
