Yemen’s Houthis claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi Aramco facilities in Riyadh after residents and a Reuters witness reported flames and a large plume of smoke near an Aramco site on Saturday.
Anadolu Ajansı reported that the group said it used missiles and drones in the attack. Satellite fire-detection data cited by Türkiye Today showed unusual thermal activity at Aramco’s Riyadh refinery, while open-source satellite imagery appeared to show thick smoke over the Saudi capital. The cause of the fire and the extent of any damage were not independently verified.
Saudi authorities had not confirmed the incident in initial reports, and Aramco had not commented. The Houthis also accused Saudi Arabia of carrying out dozens of strikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and said they would respond to further escalation.
The incident follows other recent Houthi claims of attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure, including Aramco sites in Yanbu and the Jazan refinery. Saudi Arabia previously said it intercepted missiles aimed toward Taif and the Yanbu area without reporting damage to Aramco facilities.
