Pakistan and India summoned each other’s diplomats after a border incident on Friday in which two Pakistani civilians were killed and another person was reportedly wounded.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said Indian Border Security Force personnel used “unprovoked and lethal force” against unarmed civilians in the Bedian sector along the international border. It summoned India’s charge d’affaires to lodge a strong protest and rejected attempts to characterize those killed as infiltrators.
Islamabad called for an immediate, transparent investigation and requested disciplinary and legal action against anyone found responsible, along with formal notification of the findings.
India’s Foreign Ministry rejected Pakistan’s allegations as “baseless and motivated.” It said three people had crossed into Indian territory in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector and continued toward the border fence despite repeated warnings to return to Pakistan. Indian officials said the Border Security Force engaged them because they posed an imminent security threat.
New Delhi summoned the charge d’affaires of the Pakistan High Commission to protest what it described as Pakistan’s continued facilitation of illegal cross-border infiltration. It also linked the incident to what it called repeated movement by armed narcotics syndicates operating from Pakistan and urged Islamabad to investigate alleged infiltration and drug-smuggling activity.
The dispute comes amid continued tensions following an April 2025 attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 people and preceded four days of conflict. India accuses Pakistan of supporting that attack, which Pakistan denies.
