Türkiye and Pakistan agreed at emergency talks in Riyadh to provide military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia as the kingdom confronts escalating attacks by Yemen’s Houthis.
In a joint statement issued Monday, the three countries said they would immediately begin implementing collective-defence commitments under the Makkah Alliance for Defence and take measures to ensure the “rapid deployment” of agreed forces and capabilities. The pact, signed on August 7, treats an armed attack on one member as an attack on all three.
The statement did not specify the number or roles of personnel involved, and implementation remains subject to each country’s laws. Türkiye’s parliament has not yet ratified the pact, while Turkish constitutional rules may require parliamentary approval to deploy troops unless the agreement itself provides sufficient authority.
Middle East Eye reported, citing Turkish officials, that Ankara plans to send additional personnel and air-defence equipment in the coming weeks. The officials said Türkiye has maintained technical teams, air-defence systems and electronic-warfare equipment in Saudi Arabia since last year. Analysts cited by The National said Turkish assistance is more likely to focus on air and missile defence, intelligence, training and advisory support than a large combat deployment in Yemen.
The announcement followed renewed fighting in which Yemen’s internationally recognized government said it had retaken several areas, including the Red Sea port of Mocha. The Houthis also claimed attacks on Saudi airports, a refinery and a military base; the opposing sides disputed each other’s battlefield claims.
