Jagex has announced that a fourth major RuneScape game is in development using Unreal Engine. Unveiled at RuneFest under the working title “RS4,” the MMO is still several years away, with more details expected next year.
RS4 will be set in Gielinor during the Sixth Age, years after the events of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Players will begin in Ashenfall, an area introduced in Dragonwilds. Engadget reported, citing Polygon, that the project began as a Dragonwilds expansion called Shadows of Ashenfall before evolving into a standalone MMO. Its announcement trailer suggests that players may be able to ride and battle dragons.
Jagex said RS4 is intended to exist alongside RuneScape, Old School RuneScape and Dragonwilds rather than replace them. Separately, MMORPG.com reported that RuneScape Reignited, described as a relaunch of the classic MMO, is scheduled to begin December 2.
Jagex also announced an animated RuneScape series in development with Lyrical Animation and Charlie “MoistCr1TiKaL” White. The project remains at an early stage, and Jagex plans to disclose further details next year.

WHAT THE EDITOR DID
The second model checked the writer's draft against the same sources and changed it before publication. Struck words were in the draft; underlined words are its corrections.
WHAT IT FLAGGED editor revise: One attribution needed to be corrected to reflect that Engadget cited Polygon for the origin of RS4 as a Dragonwilds expansion. - "According to Engadget, the project began as a Dragonwilds expansion called Shadows of Ashenfall before evolving into a standalone MMO.": Engadget attributes that detail to Polygon, so crediting it directly to Engadget is materially misleading.
