Russia launched a wave of strikes on Kyiv on Wednesday, hitting major bridges and damaging the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Film Studio as attacks on the Ukrainian capital intensified.
At least two people were killed in a fire caused by what President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described as “massive strikes,” France 24 reported. Recent Russian attacks have increasingly targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as well as rail and road links.
The New York Times, CNN and The Washington Post reported that Russia has begun focusing attacks on Kyiv’s bridges, threatening transport routes serving the capital. CNN said another major bridge was struck Wednesday. The full extent of damage to the bridges and any resulting disruption was not immediately clear.
The Dovzhenko studio said a three-pavilion building at its Kyiv complex was damaged in the October 7 missile attack. No deaths were reported at the studio, where emergency workers, police and medical crews were assessing the damage. The complex had already sustained extensive damage in Russian strikes in June.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine would intensify attacks on Russian oil refineries as Kyiv’s bridges came under fire, according to DW. Ukraine has also continued targeting Russian military logistics: satellite imagery cited by Militarnyi showed that a span of the Chonhar Road Bridge, linking Russian-occupied southern Ukraine with Crimea, collapsed after Ukrainian strikes, although traffic continued via nearby alternative crossings.
