Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the Premier League club until June 2030, the club announced Wednesday.
The new deal follows a season in which Arteta guided Arsenal to their first English league title in 22 years after three consecutive runner-up finishes. He also took the club to its first Champions League final in two decades, where Arsenal lost to Paris Saint-Germain on penalties.
“It’s a privilege to commit my future to the club and to continue to work with exceptional people who want the best for Arsenal,” Arteta said. “We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime, and what is so exciting is that this is only the beginning of what we can achieve together.”
Arteta, 44, took charge in December 2019 in his first full-time managerial role and won the FA Cup during his opening season. He has since returned Arsenal to the Champions League following a six-year absence. Members of his coaching staff have also agreed to extended deals.
The Irish Times reported that Arteta’s four-year agreement is worth more than £20 million a season, which would make him the Premier League’s highest-paid manager.
Arsenal co-chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke said they were proud of what the club had achieved with Arteta and were “excited for what lies ahead.”
