Canadian rock singer-songwriter Sass Jordan, known for the albums *Racine* and *Rats* and for serving as a judge on *Canadian Idol*, died on Oct. 2, according to a statement posted on social media. The statement said she died surrounded by family. No cause of death was announced. Several outlets reported her age as 65, while People and PennLive reported that she was 63.
Born in Birmingham, England, Jordan moved to Montreal as a child and began performing as a teenager. Atlantic Records released her debut album, *Tell Somebody*, in 1988, and she won the Juno Award for most promising female vocalist the following year.
Her 1992 album *Racine* produced four Canadian Top 20 hits and helped expand her audience in the United States. “Sun’s Gonna Rise,” from the 1994 album *Rats*, reached No. 7 in Canada and became her only entry on the U.S. Hot 100. She also appeared on the soundtrack to *The Bodyguard* and later performed as Janis Joplin in the off-Broadway musical *Love, Janis*.
Jordan subsequently served as a judge for six seasons of *Canadian Idol*. Her later work included the blues albums *Rebel Moon Blues* in 2020 and *Bitches Blues* in 2022. In September, she canceled tour dates because of what she described as a serious medical condition.
