Malaysia unveiled a RM459.8 billion (US$112.6 billion) federal budget for 2027 on Friday, expanding assistance and tax relief while maintaining fuel subsidies as households face higher living costs.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who is also finance minister, told parliament that RM376.8 billion would go to operating expenditure and RM83 billion to development, much of it for infrastructure. The government expects slower economic growth and higher inflation next year while seeking to narrow the fiscal deficit.

Measures include raising the minimum wage to RM2,000 a month, increasing entry-level pay floors for graduates and semi-skilled workers, offering tax relief to middle-income earners and expanding direct cash assistance. The budget also provides RM8 billion for technical and vocational education and training, including programmes in specialised fields such as robotics.

Funding for infrastructure upgrades in Chinese New Villages will rise to more than RM100 million, including repairs and replacement of ageing facilities. Registered non-Muslim houses of worship will receive RM80 million for maintenance.

The government will also allocate RM50 million to a new Komuniti Angkat Madani initiative supporting urban People’s Housing Project communities. Anwar said related programmes introduced since 2024 had benefited nearly 500 villages and 1,700 schools nationwide.

Cabinet ministers welcomed the budget’s emphasis on household incomes, public services, skills training and digital infrastructure.
