PepsiCo is voluntarily recalling about 122,000 cases of Gatorade distributed across 37 U.S. states because some products contain undeclared artificial food dyes, according to a notice from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The affected Gatorade products contain Yellow No. 5 and Yellow No. 6, which were not declared as ingredients. Reports indicate that the recall includes products sold in Michigan, South Carolina and Washington, among other states.
The recall began Sept. 25, and the FDA classified it as a Class II recall on Oct. 2. The agency uses that classification for products whose use or exposure may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or where the likelihood of serious adverse consequences is remote.
Consumers should check affected Gatorade products against the recall information and return recalled drinks rather than consume them.
