Indian Railways cancelled at least 245 trains serving Delhi ahead of a Cockroach Janta Party protest planned at Jantar Mantar on October 10, while Delhi Metro restricted access at 57 stations for security reasons.
The Indian Express reported that 75 mail and express trains and 170 passenger trains were cancelled, including Rajdhani, Tejas, Shatabdi and Humsafar services. Two trains were rescheduled, and nine were short-terminated or originated from alternate stations. Northern Railway attributed the measures to anticipated severe road congestion around New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations. A later Indian Express report said operations were returning to normal and no additional cancellations were planned.
Delhi Metro said entry and exit at the affected stations would remain closed from 9 p.m. on October 9 until further notice on October 10. Interchange services would continue at the stations except New Delhi, while trains were expected to operate at reduced frequency. The restrictions covered major central stations and locations across the network, including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Mandi House and Kashmere Gate.
The Supreme Court urged authorities to avoid bringing transport to a halt and to apply restrictions proportionately, according to The Indian Express.
Passengers holding confirmed or RAC e-tickets for cancelled trains are eligible for automatic full refunds to their original payment accounts, typically within three to seven working days. Counter-ticket holders must seek refunds at a computerized reservation counter.
