The Emmy Awards will move from broadcast television to Amazon’s Prime Video in 2027 under a six-year agreement between Amazon and the Television Academy.
Prime Video will stream the annual ceremony live and exclusively in more than 240 countries and territories. The broadcast will be free to watch, including for viewers who do not subscribe to Amazon Prime.
The agreement ends the longstanding arrangement under which ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC rotated coverage of the awards. The networks had shared the ceremony under that system for decades, with the most recent contract expiring in 2026. The new deal gives the Emmys a dedicated distribution platform rather than a different broadcast home each year.
Amazon and the Television Academy did not disclose the financial terms. Deadline reported that Amazon will pay more than $20 million annually, while Engadget cited a reported range of $20 million to $25 million per year.
Television Academy chair Cris Abrego said the Prime Video agreement would give the Emmys broader global reach and support the academy’s work throughout the year. Prime Video may also carry other Television Academy programming, though details have not been announced.
The move follows other awards ceremonies onto streaming platforms. Netflix has carried the Screen Actors Guild Awards since 2024, and YouTube is scheduled to become the exclusive home of the Oscars beginning in 2029.
