Jury selection began on Monday at Southwark Crown Court in London for the trial of British comedian and actor Russell Brand on rape and sexual assault charges.
Brand, 51, faces three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault involving six women. The alleged offences span a decade, from 1999 to 2009. He has pleaded not guilty to all seven charges and is on bail.
Brand arrived at the court at about 8:45 a.m. with his wife, Laura Gallacher, and security personnel. He did not speak to reporters before entering the courthouse. During the hearing, he sat in the dock as prospective jurors were considered.
The jury-selection process was expected to continue on Tuesday, with prosecutors due to open their case on Wednesday morning. Jurors were told the trial, overseen by High Court judge Justice Joel Bennathan, is expected to last about six weeks.
