Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed Iran’s position on a possible resolution of the US-Iran war to US President Donald Trump, the Kremlin said Saturday.
“In coordination with the president of Iran, Putin conveyed to Trump the Iranian side’s view on a possible resolution of the conflict,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, according to Russia’s Interfax news agency. Other Russian media reports said Putin spoke with Trump by phone after meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a summit in Turkmenistan.
The Kremlin did not disclose Iran’s proposal or the terms under discussion. CNBC reported that the White House did not immediately confirm the conversation.
Trump has said he expects to soon “settle or win” both the Iran conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war. In a separate Truth Social post Monday, he rejected claims that Russia and China were helping Iran, saying both countries had “too much to lose.”
The reported diplomacy followed Trump’s announcement of an arrangement under which Russia would add diesel to the global market amid higher energy prices. The US Treasury also temporarily waived sanctions on Russian diesel through April 2027. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy criticized the move, arguing that easing sanctions without Russian de-escalation would prolong the war in Ukraine.
