Citroën has unveiled an electric concept inspired by its classic 2CV and says a production model is planned within the next two years.
Presented at the Paris Motor Show, the 2 CV Concept updates the design of the original small car, which debuted at the same event in 1948. Citroën is targeting a starting price of €15,000 for the eventual production version, according to Engadget.
The concept emphasizes qualities associated with the original model, including affordability, low weight, practicality and versatility. Its interior features recessed door panels, wide seats, a removable front passenger seat and a detachable storage basket in place of a center console. A removable radio and an eight-inch touchscreen are also included, while the brake and accelerator pedals carry tortoise and rabbit symbols.
The minimalist dashboard uses a single support for the steering wheel, controls, gear selector and touchscreen. Some of the concept’s features may change before production to meet automotive regulations.
Citroën said the project is intended to lead to a more accessible, lighter and simpler electric vehicle. The company does not currently sell cars in the United States.
