Five people were killed and 16 injured when Houthi ballistic missiles struck Yemen’s presidential palace in the southern port city of Aden, government officials said. Prime Minister Shaya Zindani and other cabinet ministers survived the attack unharmed.
Information Minister Moammar al-Eryani told the BBC that five missiles hit al-Maashiq Palace, the seat of Yemen’s internationally recognised government. Health Minister Qasim Buhaibeh said guards and civilian employees were among the casualties. Initial reports had placed the death toll at two, but officials later raised it to five.
Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said the group had targeted what he called the Saudi military operations headquarters in Aden. Zindani condemned the strike and said the government would continue operating from the city and pursuing military operations against the Houthis.
The Saudi-led coalition supports Yemen’s government against the Iran-backed Houthis, who control the capital, Sanaa, and much of western Yemen. The attack came amid continued Houthi missile and drone strikes against Saudi Arabia and fighting along Yemen’s Red Sea coast.
