Dan Levy Criticizes Shane Gillis Over ‘SNL’ Monologue About Women’s Gym Clothes

Actor Dan Levy criticized comedian Shane Gillis after Gillis made disparaging remarks about women’s gym clothing while hosting NBC’s *Saturday Night Live* on October 10.

During his opening monologue, Gillis said he had not been to a gym in so long that he “didn’t know women just dress like whores now.” He described women’s brightly colored shorts and joked that men were not allowed to look because women might be filming videos.

In an Instagram video posted Sunday, Levy said women wearing short shorts at the gym did not justify the insult. “It makes the men calling them whores misogynists,” he said, adding that he was “speechless that something like that can exist on live national television.” Levy urged more men to challenge misogyny and argued that objectifying women contributes to a broader culture in which they are mistreated.

Other public figures also objected. Influencer Grace Brassel, identified by the *South China Morning Post* as Gillis’ former girlfriend, criticized the monologue. Casey Anthony wrote on Substack that women can dress however they choose and called on men to “do better,” according to *In Touch Weekly*.

Gillis also appeared in a *Green Eggs and Ham*-inspired sketch during the episode, where he uttered an expletive on the live broadcast and later apologized for the slip. His monologue, however, drew the broader criticism over its comments about women and a separate closing joke involving gay men and Adolf Hitler.
