Bryan Cranston and other members of the *Breaking Bad* cast have paid tribute to actor RJ Mitte, who died Monday at age 34. People.com reported that Mitte died by suicide, while RTÉ News said his representatives announced his death.
Cranston, who played Mitte’s on-screen father Walter White, wrote on Instagram that he was in “deep despair.” He recalled meeting Mitte when the actor was 14 and praised the joy and enthusiasm he brought to the role of Walter White Jr., as well as his determination on set and advocacy for performers with disabilities.
Cranston said the two had exchanged text messages in recent weeks while trying to arrange a lunch. He described Mitte as his “sweet son” and wrote: “I’ll miss you, son.”
Aaron Paul told The Hollywood Reporter that he was “at a loss” and heartbroken. Dean Norris remembered Mitte as “a sweetheart of a young man” whom he had looked out for during filming, while Matt Jones described him as “a little brother to all of us.”
