Russian attacks across Ukraine overnight into Friday killed at least three people, injured others and disrupted electricity supplies, while Poland scrambled fighter jets as strikes hit western Ukraine near its border.
Poland’s armed forces said its airspace was not violated. In Ukraine’s Volyn region, electricity was cut to 370,000 people and two people were injured, regional officials said. A drone attack killed three people and injured five in Kharkiv, while a strike on an apartment building in Uman injured five. Emergency power cuts were also imposed in Kyiv.
Russia said it shot down 644 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 94 headed toward Moscow, while airports in Moscow and St Petersburg temporarily suspended operations. Russian officials also reported that air defences stopped an attack on a heating plant in the Vladimir region. Two people were killed in Russian-controlled Luhansk, according to the region’s Russian-installed governor.
Ukraine separately said it struck a Nebo-U long-range radar in Russia’s Krasnodar region on October 16. The claim was not independently confirmed. President Volodymyr Zelensky also said an earlier Neptune missile strike on the Borisoglebsk military airfield destroyed four Russian Su-34M aircraft and damaged two.
Meanwhile, Cloudflare disputed claims that Ukrainian attacks on Yandex data centres had disabled Russian online influence operations. The company said search-crawling traffic stopped, but malicious bots moved to other networks, and it found no evidence that social-media manipulation was knocked offline.
