Award-winning press photographer Colin Keegan has died following a collision involving his motorcycle and a car in Dunboyne, Co Meath.
The crash occurred at about 12.15pm on the R156 at Harlockstown. Keegan, who was in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was taken to Navan Mortuary. The car’s driver, a woman in her 70s, was not injured.
Keegan worked with the Collins photo agency for three decades, covering news, politics and entertainment across Ireland. His photographs appeared widely in Irish media, and he received several awards from the Press Photographers’ Association of Ireland.
Charlie Collins, proprietor of the agency, described Keegan as “one of the best news photographers in the country” and “a total gentleman.” Fellow photographers also remembered him as a highly skilled professional, a supportive colleague and a devoted father.
Gardaí have completed a forensic examination of the scene and established an incident room at Ashbourne Garda Station. A senior investigating officer has been appointed. Investigators appealed for witnesses, particularly anyone with dashcam footage from the area, to contact Ashbourne Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line or any Garda station.
