Florida may enforce a law barring children under 14 from holding social media accounts and imposing other restrictions after an appeals court issued a key ruling Wednesday, Fast Company reported. Gov. Ron DeSantis signed the measure in 2024, when it was among the country’s most restrictive state laws governing children’s social media use.
The appeals court said the law implicates the First Amendment but likely does so in a content-neutral manner. It also said the measure would probably survive a full legal challenge because it does not burden substantially more speech than necessary to advance the state’s interest in protecting minors from social media addiction.
