A Houthi missile struck a Saudi Aramco building following a Saudi-led coalition attack on a fuel depot in Yemen, according to reports from AP, NPR and the BBC. Saudi Arabia issued new security alerts as the Iran-backed Yemeni group continued attacks on airports and infrastructure across the kingdom.
The escalation has disrupted several major sporting events. Three Saudi domestic football matches were postponed, while an Asian Champions League match involving Al-Nassr was delayed after Saudi Civil Defence said it intercepted a missile headed toward Riyadh. The Six Kings Slam tennis exhibition was moved to late December.
Asian Football Confederation President Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said the 2027 Asian Cup, scheduled to begin January 7 in Jeddah, Riyadh and al-Khobar, could be postponed until 2028 if necessary. He said organizers would monitor conditions and could wait until the end of November before deciding. Australian football officials said they were closely monitoring the situation, while South Korea’s players’ association expressed concern for participants’ safety.
The National reported that Yemen’s government said the Houthis also fired five missiles at the presidential palace in Aden and that Saudi Arabia intercepted a drone in its eastern region. An EU-Gulf Cooperation Council summit was postponed amid the attacks.
Saudi Arabia also endorsed a UN Security Council statement condemning strikes on Saudi territory and called for cooperation to prevent weapons and other assistance from reaching the Houthis.
