The Milwaukee Brewers completed a four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 6-4 victory Thursday, reaching the World Series for the first time since 1982.
Jake Bauers began Milwaukee’s Game 4 comeback with a two-run double, and Garrett Mitchell hit the go-ahead home run as the Brewers eliminated the two-time defending champions at Dodger Stadium. Milwaukee will host the opening game of the World Series on Oct. 23 against the winner of the American League Championship Series between the Cleveland Guardians and Tampa Bay Rays.
The Brewers had taken control of the National League Championship Series with three straight wins, beginning with a 2-1 victory in Milwaukee. They won Game 2 by a 7-4 score before beating Los Angeles 6-2 in Game 3.
In the third game, the Dodgers briefly moved ahead 2-1 on Will Smith’s two-run double in the sixth inning. Bauers and Mitchell then hit consecutive home runs off Blake Snell in the seventh to restore Milwaukee’s lead. Jackson Chourio also homered on Snell’s first pitch, while the Brewers added runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
The sweep reversed the result of the previous season’s NLCS, when Los Angeles eliminated Milwaukee in four games.
